As a writer and an outdoor enthusiast, I am passionate about sharing the joys of nature with others.
When I was a child, I played in the tepid waters of the brackish bay just outside my grandparents’ home. I would often travel with my parents to their alma mater, the University of Florida, and fish alongside the local alligators. And as I grew older, my love for Florida blossomed into an expanded appreciation for all of nature’s wonders. Since then, I have taken every available opportunity to explore the world.
From fishing Lake Michigan for Chinook and Coho salmon, to tuna fishing in the Gulf of Mexico, to fly fishing in England, I have been blessed to experience life-changing moments in nature. Hiking 30 miles through the Colorado wilderness, I understood the freedom of unadulterated mountains, with rugged plateaus and the unsettling midnight cacophony of a pack of wild coyotes. Kayaking the Costa Brava, I learned the power of waves against the cavernous underbellies of rocky shores. Each of these adventures has shaped who I am and had a profound impact on my outlook in life.
“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also,” Matthew 6:21.
To treasure the environment means to protect it.
“The more clearly we can focus our attention on the wonders and realities of the universe about us, the less taste we shall have for destruction.” – Rachel Carson
As a professional communicator, I hope to instill in others the same sense of wonder about the world. Conservation communicators like Rachel Carson and John Muir pioneered the way for the environmental movement. They are both spectacular examples of what it means to make change through language. It is my goal to follow in their example, and metaphorically teach a man to fish so he will protect his fishery.
Below you’ll find a photo collage of my hobbies. In addition to my love for all things related to the water (fishing, snorkeling, boating, skiing, ice fishing), the sciences, and communication, I also enjoy traveling, music, and sports. Please take some time to look around my website, get to know me, and learn about some of my favorite conservation initiatives to support!
